Historical Timeline

1814 West Potomac Rugby Football Club forms in response to armed British invasion.
1814-1964 Various documents regarding this period are currently being declassified and are under review by historians. We will release details soon.
1964-1969 A murky period only Moffitt knows anything about...and it will remain that way until the court proceedings are completed.
1970 SAIS RFC begins drinking at Scoreboard Bar in Georgetown.
SAIS RFC knocks out load-bearing post at Scoreboard Bar in Georgetown.
1971 Scoreboard Bar in Georgetown razed and converted into parking lot.
SAIS RFC resumes drinking at Maggie's bar in Bethesda, MD.
Maggie says "and don't come back!!!"
Move to Ruck and Run Bar in Sea Fair Restaurant.
Thrown out of Ruck and Run for racing live lobsters on the bar.
1974 Moved to the Irish Bar in Crystal City.
Neighbors complain about nude men on roof of bar. Bar owner sends wife to investigate. Wife stays upstairs.
SAIS objects to report of urination in courtyard same night as SAIS RFC used classroom for chalk-talk.
SAIS asks rugby team to change name.
SAIS RFC becomes West Potomac RFC reclaiming the original name.
SAIS says "good riddance."
Irish Bar in Crystal City under new ownership. New owner assures WPRFC he wants their business.
New owner's daughter "entertains" George Mason's entire backfield in the upstairs room. New owner threatens criminal action.
Entire George Mason backfield contracts gonorrhea. New owner contrite.
1977 Bob H. wipes butt with brick (yes, a brick) in parking lot behind bar in front of new owner's wife. WPRFC searches for new bar.
1978 WPRFC resumes drinking at Whitey's bar in Arlington.
WPRFC schedules trip to Bahamas to play Bahamian National Side.
Bahamians call up night before depature and cancel tour. WPRFC declares themselves undefeated champions. WPRFC celebrates.
WPRFC schedules trip to Barbados
WPRFC discovers Barbadian beer has no alcohol switches to rum. Barbadians kick WPRFC's ass in the hot sun, on television, twice. WPRFC celebrates.
Paul G. moons waitress at Whitey's. Waitress quits, applies for welfare next day, Paul thrown out of bar for three months.
Paul buys wig. Gets thrown out for three more months.
Whitey's discovered by Yuppies. Yuppies tip better. Whitey's management casts baleful glare in direction of WPRFC.
Navy pack gets naked on Washington Blvd after party. WPRFC looks for new bar.
WPRFC starts drinking at "Fern Bar" on "M" Street downtown. WPRFC gets ass kicked by pretty much everyone in the "B" division.
Ferns deteriorate badly. WPRFC forced to look for new, cheaper bar.
WPRFC finds one, a real dump in the bottom of an office building in Bailey's Crossroads. Bad food, ugly barmaids and low-life patrons alienate even WPRFC.
WPRFC approaches new "new owner" of Irish Bar (now called Snuggery). Owner indicates he had trouble with a rugby team a long time ago, but is assured by Rich McNamara that "we're not like THOSE guys."
1991 Waitress comes upstairs during elections and sees "Life in the Fat Lane" featuring 3 women totaling 1450 lbs engaging in "questionable activities" on TV. WPRFC looks for new bar and officers.
WPRFC resumes drinking at "Fins" on Columbia Pike. Forced to leave when Treasurer Stan F. writes 3 successive bad checks to management. WPRFC looks for new bar and Treasurer.
WPRFC schedules (another) trip to Bahamas. Travel agent forces move to cheaper, rattier hotel at last minute. New hotel has all night bar. WPRFC does not complain.
WPRFC wins both scheduled games, Jerry H. thrown out of same bar three nights in a row for jumping naked into pool.
1992-1994 Dreary succession of uninteresting establishments wherein WPRFC competes with wimpy soccer players, **** and - God help us, softballers, for a place to drink.
WPRFC moves to "My Brother's Place", also Washington Irish's Bar
1994 WPRFC drinks Washington Irish's beer. Washington Irish recruits WPRFC players. WPRFC moves next door to "Upper Chamber."
1995 Upper Chamber changes name to "Sully's Tavern on the Hill." Sully joins the team. WPRFC finds a home.
1995-2000 WPRFC history under review for litigous matter.
2000 WPRFC celebrates New Year's Eve at the Outter Banks, NC with a massive fireworks show. Nobody gets arrested or thrown out of bars, there are no injuries (except during a game of pick up basketball), no one dies and everyone has fun. Old Boys complain team has changed for the worse.
"Sully's Tavern on the Hill" becomes respectable. Renovated, expanded and renamed to "Sullivan's Emerald Isle." WPRFC starts to worry.
